More About Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa 1, Olubadan Of Ibadanland

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has warned masquerades and their followers against engaging in any form of violence during this year’s Egungun Festival, stressing that anyone found disturbing public peace will face the full weight of the law.

The monarch issued the warning ahead of the commencement of the annual cultural celebration scheduled to begin in Ibadan on Monday, noting that the festival must be observed in an atmosphere of peace and respect for law and order.

In a statement signed by his Chief Spokesman and Media Aide, Chief Adeola Oloko, Oba Ladoja described the Egungun Festival as a longstanding cultural heritage of Ibadanland that has been preserved and celebrated across generations.

He said the festival remains a key platform for promoting cultural identity, unity and social cohesion among residents, while also showcasing traditional values through rites, dances, drum performances and other cultural displays.

According to him, the celebration provides an opportunity for families and communities to come together in appreciation of Ibadan’s history and traditions, strengthening bonds among different segments of society.

“The festival is dedicated to celebrating our lore, customs and traditions. It is a moment to showcase the evolution of our society, social cohesion, family unity and solidarity through the offering of sacrifices,” the monarch said.

Oba Ladoja, however, cautioned that the festival must not be turned into a platform for violence, retaliation or supremacy battles among rival groups, warning that such acts undermine its cultural significance.

He added that security agencies had been placed on alert in collaboration with the palace to ensure order throughout the festival period, urging residents and participants to cooperate fully and adhere to all approved guidelines for a peaceful celebration.
