Osun PDP, Accord Urge INEC To Ensure Transparency In PVC Distribution
The Osun State chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Accord Party have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure transparency in the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the August governorship election.
In a joint statement signed by Osun PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, and Osun Accord Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, the parties urged INEC to avoid any form of collusion with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the handling of PVCs.
They maintained that only registered voters should collect their PVCs personally, stressing that the process must be transparent and accountable.
The parties alleged that there were attempts to pressure the electoral commission into releasing PVCs to individuals they described as illegal voters, urging INEC not to compromise its guidelines.
“We have it on good authority that the Osun APC is pressuring the electoral commission to release some PVCs for their imported illegal voters. We task the commission not to succumb to such illegal conduct, as the distribution of PVCs has a template which should be observed to the letter,” the statement read.
The PDP and Accord also called for transparency in the management of unclaimed PVCs, noting that they would seek clarification from INEC on the exact number of cards yet to be collected.
According to the parties, they possess data that would enable them to compare figures released by the commission during engagements on the issue.
They warned against any attempt to grant unauthorised access to unclaimed PVCs, insisting that they would resist any action capable of undermining the integrity of the electoral process.
