Hold Your Leaders Accountable, Give Them Necessary Support, Oyebamiji Urges Nigerians
The Osun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, has urged Nigerians to continue to hold leaders accountable while providing the necessary support needed for them to succeed.
Oyebamiji made the call in a Democracy Day message delivered on his behalf by Kayode Adereti during June 12 celebration organized by organized by the Civil Society Committee of the APC 2026 Campaign Council, urged leaders at all levels to remain committed to making sacrifices and delivering the benefits of democracy to the people.
He said the sacrifices of Nigeria’s past and present democratic heroes must not be allowed to go in vain, urging public officials to continue working towards improving the lives of citizens.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day today, I urge all Nigerians to continue to hold our leaders accountable while giving them the support they need to succeed.
“As leaders in our respective positions, we must all embrace sacrifice and continue to do our best to deliver the gains of democracy to our people so that the sacrifices of heroes, both past and living, will not be in vain. Oyebamiji stated.
Reflecting on the significance of June 12, the APC candidate described the date as a symbol of the collective determination of Nigerians to rise above ethnic, religious, and other divisive sentiments in pursuit of freedom and democratic ideals.
According to him, the sacrifices made by the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, his wife, the late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, and other pro-democracy activists remain a source of inspiration for Nigerians.
Oyebamiji noted that while the struggle for democracy came at a great cost, Nigerians demonstrated resilience by embracing democratic governance after years of military rule.
He said his administration, if elected, would build on progressive ideals through the implementation of the “Osun Prosperity Agenda,” a seven-point development blueprint designed to reposition the state for sustainable growth and development.
However, the Director-General of the APC Osun 2026 Gubernatorial Campaign Council, Hon. Oluwole Oke described June 12 as a defining symbol of sacrifice, resilience, justice and the struggle for accountable governance.
According to Oke, democracy must be continuously nurtured and defended by citizens and leaders alike.
“June 12 reminds us that democracy is not a gift, but a hard-earned right that must be protected and strengthened by every generation,” he said.
Speaking, National Commissioner representing Oyo and Osun States at the Federal Civil Service Commission, Dr. Olowogboyega Oyebade urged workers and citizens to support leaders committed to improving their welfare and advancing development.
He also used the occasion to rally support for the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
A chieftain of the party, Comrade Amitolu Shittu commended former President Muhammadu Buhari for officially recognizing June 12 as Democracy Day and honouring the memory of Chief M.K.O. Abiola.
He equally praised President Bola Tinubu for sustaining the recognition and preserving the ideals associated with the struggle.
Shittu noted that many individuals who were not part of the democratic struggle eventually became beneficiaries of the democratic order that emerged after military rule, describing June 12 as a day for both friends and opponents of democracy to reflect on the nation’s political evolution.
