Obasanjo’s Son Backs Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid, Joins Campaign Movement
Hon. Olujuwon Obasanjo, son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has joined the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement as Special Adviser on Political Affairs, pledging to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Obasanjo made the pledge on Wednesday during a visit to the movement’s national headquarters in Abuja, where he was formally received by its National Coordinator, Comrade Sunday Adekanbi.
He was subsequently conducted round the facility to familiarise himself with the organisation’s structure, operations and grassroots mobilisation activities.
Speaking during the visit, Obasanjo described his appointment as an honour and privilege, commending the movement for its grassroots engagement, community outreach and efforts to publicise the policies and achievements of the Tinubu administration.
He said he had followed the activities of the organisation and was impressed by its interventions across communities, expressing readiness to deploy his experience, resources and political connections towards strengthening its objectives.
According to him, President Tinubu has started on a good note, stressing the need for Nigerians, particularly young people, to support the administration’s reforms and ensure continuity in governance.
He identified regular payment of salaries, infrastructure development and efforts to expand investment opportunities as some of the areas where the country had recorded progress under the current administration.
Obasanjo maintained that Tinubu deserved another opportunity to consolidate the achievements of his government, expressing confidence that a renewed mandate in 2027 would enable the administration to deliver more dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
He also disclosed that he had been a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) since 2014, clarifying that members of his family were entitled to hold independent political views and pursue their political interests without rancour.
Earlier, Adekanbi welcomed Obasanjo into the movement, describing him as an experienced political figure whose leadership background and understanding of governance would strengthen the organisation’s mobilisation efforts.
He expressed confidence that Obasanjo’s political experience and grassroots connections would help expand the movement’s structures and reach across the country ahead of the 2027 general election.
Adekanbi said the organisation was delighted by his decision to join its fold, adding that his appointment reflected his willingness to contribute to national development and the success of the Tinubu administration.
He urged the new Special Adviser to bring his knowledge, experience and political network to bear on the movement’s nationwide mobilisation drive.
