Breaking: Court Nullifies Atiku’s Emergence As ADC Presidential Candidate, Sacks David Mark, Aregbesola
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has nullified the processes that led to the emergence of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The court also nullified the emergence of former Senate President, David Mark, and former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as national officers of the party.
Justice Peter Lifu, who delivered the judgment on Thursday, equally invalidated the nominations of all candidates selected by the ADC for the 2027 general elections.
The judge held that the party’s leadership structure, under which the affected officials emerged, was unlawful.
The judgment followed a suit instituted by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a Deputy National Chairman of the ADC, who challenged the emergence of Mark and Aregbesola as leaders of the party.
Justice Lifu upheld Gombe’s case, ruling that the emergence of the duo and other party officials did not comply with the law.
Consequently, the court declared all actions taken by the David Mark-led leadership in the name of the ADC unlawful and nullified them.
The ruling also effectively invalidated the party’s nomination processes for the 2027 general elections, including Atiku Abubakar’s emergence as its presidential candidate.
Details of the judgment are still emerging.
