Oriire Abductees Not Released, Oyo Govt Warns Against Misleading Reports
The Oyo State Government has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media claiming that pupils, students and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area have regained their freedom, describing the report as false and misleading.
Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, issued the clarification on Wednesday, urging members of the public to disregard the video and refrain from sharing unverified information.
According to the commissioner, the victims have not been released, contrary to claims contained in the viral footage, adding that efforts to secure their safe return are still ongoing.
Oyelade stated that the government remains actively engaged in discreet operations and consultations aimed at ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted pupils, students and teachers without jeopardising ongoing efforts.
He appealed to residents and concerned stakeholders to remain patient and avoid actions capable of undermining the sensitive processes being undertaken by security agencies and relevant authorities.
The commissioner also warned social media users against spreading false information, noting that such reports could create unnecessary panic, heighten public anxiety and inflict further emotional distress on the families of the victims.
He assured residents that the state government is working closely with security agencies and other critical stakeholders to secure the release of those still being held captive and to bring the situation to a successful conclusion.
Oyelade further thanked the people of Oyo State for their continued support, understanding and prayers, expressing optimism that ongoing interventions would yield positive results as authorities intensify efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted victims.
