Accord Party LG Chairman hospitalised After Gunmen Attack In Osogbo

The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola, popularly known as Baba Isila, is receiving treatment at the Uniosun Teaching Hospital after he was shot by suspected gunmen in Osogbo.

The attack occurred on Wednesday night around the MDS area of the state capital, causing panic among residents.

Witnesses said the assailants opened fire on a Toyota Corolla conveying Ajibola and some associates.

According to one of the occupants of the vehicle, the gunmen pursued them and fired several shots at their car while they were travelling through the area.

“We were coming from the MDS area of Osogbo at about 9:50 p.m. when gunmen suddenly chased us and started shooting at our vehicle. We managed to escape to the Dugbe Divisional Police Headquarters where we sought protection before the attackers fled. After reporting the incident, we rushed Hon. Asimiyu Ajibola to the Uniosun Teaching Hospital where he is receiving treatment,” the witness said.

Sources said Ajibola sustained serious gunshot injuries and remains in a critical condition at the hospital.

Reacting to the incident, the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, condemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation by security agencies.

Alimi urged the police to ensure that those responsible for the shooting are identified and prosecuted, stressing that the matter should not be allowed to go unresolved.

He added that available indications suggested the attack might have political undertones and appealed to security agencies to conduct their investigation professionally and without bias.
