Nigeria Summons S’African Envoy Over Attacks On Nigerians, Businesses
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria has summoned the Acting High Commissioner of South Africa over growing concerns about the treatment of Nigerian citizens and their businesses.
In a statement, the ministry said the envoy has been invited to a meeting at its headquarters in Abuja to formally convey the Nigerian government’s concerns regarding recent developments that could strain bilateral relations.
The discussions are expected to focus on ongoing demonstrations in South Africa, as well as reported cases of mistreatment of Nigerians and attacks on their businesses.
The ministry acknowledged rising public concern among Nigerians over the situation and urged citizens to remain calm.
It assured that the Federal Government is committed to protecting the rights and welfare of Nigerians living in South Africa.
Nigeria and South Africa maintain longstanding diplomatic and economic ties, but tensions have occasionally surfaced over issues involving the safety of foreign nationals.
