Tinubu Orders VP Shettima To U.K. To Accompany Buhari’s Body Home
President Bola Tinubu has ordered Vice President Kashim Shettima to the United Kingdom to accompany the body of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s body back to Nigeria for burial arrangements.
President Tinubu had announced the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m. local time following a prolonged illness.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu expressed his condolences to Buhari’s widow, Aisha Buhari, and the nation.
Tinubu described the late leader as a significant figure in Nigeria’s history, noting his contributions during his tenure as both a military head of state and a democratically elected president.
Additionally, he has ordered that all flags be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for the departed leader.
Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985 and was later elected president in 2015 and 2019, serving two terms until 2023.
His leadership was marked by efforts to address security challenges and economic reforms, though his administration faced criticism over issues such as economic hardship and human rights concerns.
