Drought: Muslims Pray For Rainfall As Crops Wither In Osun
Hundreds of Muslim Ummah in Osogbo, Osun State capital, on Sunday converged at the Osogbo Central Eid (prayer ground) to pray for rain as crops in various communities of the thirty Local Government Areas of the state continue to wither.
The special prayer led by the Grand Imam and Chairman of the League of Imams and Alfas, Osun State, Sheikh Musa Animashaun was said to seek God’s intervention over the drought running into weeks.
CityMirrorNews reports that various crops, including maize, yam, millet, among others, are drying up, with farmers crying out over possible losses.
Religious leaders who attended the prayer sessions called on people to revisit their relationship with God, explaining that the sins being committed were the major contributing factors to the drought.
They stressed the importance of fearing Allah, noting that this was a prerequisite for God to listen to their prayers and provide the much-needed rain.
Speaking, Sheik Animashaun emphasized the importance of seeking Allah’s guidance and forgiveness during challenging times.
He called on the residents of the state to seek forgiveness and blessings from God.
Sheikh Animashaun stated, “Whenever there is a possible threat of drought, we are enjoined by Allah (SWT) through His Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) that we should go back to Him, and seek His guidance and forgiveness.”
