Student Bags 9 Months Jail Term For Stealing Phone
An 18-year-old student, Abubakar Adam, has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment for stealing phone worth N85,000.
An Area court sitting in Jos on Wednesday sentenced Adam to nine month in a correctional Center after a summary trial following his guilty plea.
The Judge, Shawomi Bokkos, who sentenced the defendant to nine months in prison, however, gave him an option of N10,000 fine.
The judge also ordered the convict to pay N100,000 as compensation to the complainant.
He held that the judgment would serve as a deterrent to other would-be offenders.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported by the complainant, Habizu Hassan, on Feb. 20 at the ”C” Division.
Gokwat alleged that the convict trespassed into the complainant’s room and stole his Samsung phone valued at N85,000 and sold it to Abdullahi Gambo for N13,000.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of the Penal Code Law of Plateau State.
