TUC Pulls Out Of Nationwide Strike
The Trade Union Congress have opted out of the two-day warning strike declared for today September 5th and September 6, by the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC.
The President of the TUC, Festus Osifo, announced this after a meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, on Monday night, September 4.
While speaking after the meeting, Osifo said the Congress will be giving the Federal government a two-weeks grace to see how the palliatives will be effectively distributed.
“With the president being away from the country, coupled with the fact the federal executive meeting will be held next week, where the workers demand will be tabled for approval, TUC resolved to accept the two weeks proposed by the government side.”
The union said it would intensify the discussion with the federal government so that all grey areas identified could be ironed out within the time frame given, stressing that beyond the period it cannot guarantee industrial harmony.
