–Corps Member Cries Out For Her Help
–As Osun Speaker, Rt Hon Owoeye Shows Interest In The Matter
A single mother identified as Mummy Iseoluwa has been exposed by a man,Inyene Macauley, on how she has subjected her nine-year-old daughter to a severe torture in osogbo, the osun state capital.
Macauley, who is a member of the National Youth Service Corps,(NYSC) serving in Osogbo, Osun State, narrated how this woman has been abusing her nine-year-old biological daughter simply identified as Iseoluwa since he started living in the same house with them early this year.
The Corps member, recently lamented over this mother inhuman to daughter act via his Twitter handle, explained that since he relocated to a street in Osogbo few months back, the woman had been torturing her daughter, mostly late night, adding that neighbours had acted unperturbed despite hearing the cries of the girl constantly from the one-room apartment the woman occupied.
According to the tweets shared last Thursday, Macauley stated that Iseoluwa is not allowed to attend school as she is constantly locked indoors by her mother who had been staying in the apartment without her husband.
He said, “In the building where I live in Osogbo, Osun State, a woman has a nine-year-old girl locked up in a room. She beats, hits, punches, injures and tortures the little girl for hours, on a daily basis. Neighbours are unconcerned. The girl does not go to school.
“I moved into the building early this year. Almost every day I hear sounds of punching, kicking, slapping, head banging on the wall. Sometimes, even at 11 pm, 12 am, 1 am. According to the little girl, the woman is her mother and she has been hitting her since her childhood.”
One of the videos the whistleblower made available revealed that the woman, who tied a towel round her waist, was seen battering the girl while she agonized in the dark.
He said he had made efforts to take the girl to a police station but expressed shock that the police returned the girl to her abusive mother despite her ordeals.
“Last Sunday, the woman stripped her naked, beat her up and repeatedly scalded her face with a hot spoon. The girl managed to run out of the room. I saw her, gave her my clothes to wear and took her to the police station. The next day, the police returned her back to her abuser.
“I am a corps member serving here in Osun State. In my short time of serving Nigeria here, I am sad to see the shocking spate of child domestic abuse in Osun State.
What’s worse is that people don’t want to speak up. Everyone is acting unconcerned.
“After searching everywhere for help, I went to the Osun Women Affairs Ministry today (Thursday) to report the case. I spoke to some staff there, and they promised to follow up the case. I am wary about promises because the police promised and failed. They didn’t just fail me; they failed a little Osun girl,” Macauley said.
He added that the mother also bit the girl’s buttocks while threatening to kill her.
“Here is another of the videos from Sunday where the girl says that the woman bites her on her buttocks and threatens to kill her. She needs to be taken away from her abuser,” he said.
In one of the videos shared by Macauley, the nine-year-old was heard saying that her mother once scalded her face with a hot spoon.
Recounting her ordeal in the video, the victim confirmed that her mother scalded her face with a hot spoon and assaulted her often.
“She is using a hot spoon. She put it inside the food. You know the food was so hot on the hot plate. She put it on and she started beating me,” the child said.
Macauley said the case had been reported at the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs, Osun State after the police allegedly refused to act on it.
He lamented the worsening domestic violence happening across the country, especially against children. He said, “Children’s lives are being damaged daily in this country and nobody is saying anything. But the best way to fight child abuse is to not keep it a secret. That is why I have decided to speak up.
“If it’s the only thing that I will do before I finish serving in the State of Osun, I will fight to make sure that this little girl is separated from her abusive mother and taken to a place where she is free from abuse and where she can go to school. Because if I don’t nobody will.”
Efforts to get Bukola Olaboopo, Osun State Commissioner for Women Affairs, were not successful as at press time.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, has indicated interest in the matter by contacting the corps member via Twitter.
Owoeye while reacting to Macauley’s post wrote, “Thank you for bringing this here, please see your DM.”
