Group Blames Osun Govt, Demands Justice Over Amotekun Killings in Akinlalu
The Omoluabi Progressives have expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the reported shooting incident involving operatives of the Osun State Amotekun Corps in Akinlalu Village, Ife North Local Government Area, which resulted in the death of innocent residents and widespread panic in the community.
In a statement signed by its Publicity and Organizing Secretary, Abosede Busayo Oluwaseun, the group described the actions of the Amotekun personnel as “reckless” and “lawless,” accusing the operatives of displaying a gross lack of professionalism and restraint.
“It is most disheartening that a security outfit established to safeguard lives and property could descend into such indiscriminate violence against the very citizens it is meant to defend,” the statement read.
The group held the Osun State Government, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, responsible for the actions of its security operatives, calling for an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident.
“We call on the government to caution its Amotekun operatives, investigate this heinous incident, and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. The sanctity of human life must never be treated with levity under any guise of security operations,” the group added.
Omoluabi Progressives also commiserated with the people of Akinlalu, particularly the family that lost three children in the tragic incident.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, the injured, and all residents thrown into mourning. May God grant the departed eternal rest and heal the wounded hearts,” the statement said.
The group further demanded justice for the victims, adequate medical treatment for the injured, compensation for affected families, and the prosecution of all culpable officers.
