An aspirant for the Ife Federal House of Reps in the 2023 election, Hon. Rotimi Makinde on Saturday, commended the dispute resolution mechanisms of All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains, Chief Bisi Akande and Chief Olusegun Osoba on the protracted acrimony among the South West presidential aspirants of the party, describing it as laudable.

Makinde further referred to Chief Akande and Osoba as true elder statesmen who put everything on the line to ensure that unity exists among the party big wigs including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and others who are jostling for the party’s presidential flag.

He said, “I feel so fulfilled and elated about the roles played by our elderstatesmen Chief Bisi Akande and Chief Olusegun Osoba for their reconciliatory moves and desires to restore peace in South West APC especially among our big wigs and pillars who are jostling for the presidential ticket. I found it extremely laudable.

Honestly the perceived unhealthy rivalry which has now become social media sensation worries me a lot and has always been my headache each time I think of what becomes of Yorubaland if we fail as a generation to unite for the purpose of our overall interest under this federation and the entity called Nigeria. I cant but to appreciate the giant strides of Chief Bisi Akande and baba Osoba towards amicable resolution to form a common objective as 2023 election draws nearer.”

He continued, “The patriotic move to call all those big and notable players on a round table to discuss issues affecting Yoruba political interest is not only noble, but the reality is that the measure is very well thought out, timely, most desirous and a good sinister move along the pathway to central control of all aspects of life in our region.

The astute politician added that there are many social factors that could affect the political attitude
and behaviors of a society but the best is that no sane society would allow political differences override her moral values.

“I’m confident to say we are one united value-oriented people, true descendants of Oduduwa who have respect for elders. Our family style, language and the culture often attract lots of respect for us in the comity of other nations and surely the Omoluabi in us will never be eroded.

One of these factors, is respect to the elders and that explains my joy as our leaders respected the invitation of Baba Akande and Chief Olusegun Osoba. Elders are the most important institution so to say, in which all social and political processes are inherited since the birth of any individual. A lot of research reveals that the family of an individual adopts and maintains political attitude based on advice from elders.” Makinde said
