Human Trafficking Threat To National Security — NAPTIP
Director-General, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, says human trafficking constitutes a major national security concern.
She said new ideas and initiatives were needed to tackle the menace.
This is coming on the heels of a recent report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) that the inflation rate had risen by 18.17 per cent in March 2021, up from the 17.33 per cent recorded in February 2021.
She said this in Abuja on Monday at the graduation of 40 officers of the agency who participated in the Law Enforcement and Intelligence Course 1/2021 of the Defence Intelligence College (DIC), Karu.
She called for the establishment of effective and lasting counter-trafficking structures as well as policies that would mitigate the prevalence of human trafficking across the world.
”Let me remind the graduands that the evolving nature of this ugly and inhuman security challenge underscores the need for new ideas in tackling existing threats posed by human trafficking and the establishment of lasting structures to mitigate the menace.
“Therefore, the Law Enforcement and Intelligence Course has been specially organized with the aim of producing NAPTIP staff that are well equipped to perform this all-important task.”
