You Acted Out Of Jurisdiction, Osogbo NBA Faults Suspension Of Ife North LG Chairman By State Assembly
Sequel to the decision of the Osun State House of Assembly to suspend the Chairman of the Ife North Local Government Area of the state, the Osogbo branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has faulted the suspension saying the Assembly acted out of its jurisdiction.
The Osogbo NBA in a strongly worded letter sighted by Newsclickng.com dated May 7 and addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye advised the lawmakers to rescind their decision while explaining that despite the fact that investigations into the allegations levelled against the embattled Chairman proved he is guilty, however, only parliamentarians of the Ife North LGA had disciplinary powers over the Chairman.
The letter jointly signed by branch secretary, S.O. Abiona and Legal Adviser, Maruf Adediran urged the assembly not to flout its own laws as such might have consequential effects on the administration of law and justice in the state.
Recall that Newsclickng.com had in January exclusively reported similar action taken by the Assembly ordering the parliamentarians of the Osogbo South Local Council Development Area to vacate the council and their parliamentary duties till when the Assembly would investigate crises rocking the council. The Osogbo NBA equally came to the rescue then by challenging the Assembly’s directives to the parliamentarians
