One of the aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi has said that he certainly won the primary election recently conducted to pick the party standard bearer for the coming September 22 gubernatorial election in the state.

Ogunbiyi said even though, he won the primary election, he just let go of the issue in order to allow the peace to reign.

He stated this while playing host to his supporters and loyalists of the party at his residence in Ile-Ogbo, in Ayedire local government area of the state, on Saturday.

Restating his resolve to stay in PDP and work for the party’s success at the September 22 Governorship poll, the businesses turned politician said he had nothing against the candidate of the party, senator Ademola Adeleke or his family.

“I want to appeal to all my supporters to go and work for the success of our party, though I am confident that I won the July 21 primaries, the party’s success is superior to my interests.”

He said: “the National Working Committee of the PDP has met severally with me and the party’s flagbearer, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, in a bid to resolve all differences and satisfy all interests.

He stated however, that despite the serious efforts made by the party’s NWC and the agreements reached, the Adeleke camp is yet to honour the agreements.

According to him, it was agreed that the Ogunbiyi camp will produce the Deputy Governorship candidate while Ogunbiyi himself will be the party’s flagbearer for the Senatorial election in Osun West Senatorial District.

He expressed regrets that the Adeleke camp is yet to honour these agreements.

“I believe in party supremacy and have already put my trust in God. The leadership of the party said that my camp should present the deputy governorship candidate. And that I will be given a senator ticket.”

“Even though I am sure I won the election, for peace to reign and in view of my belief in the PDP, I was just looking. But, Adeleke’s camp had already chosen Mr. Albert Adeogun has the deputy governor candidate and till now, they have not fulfilled the agreement.”

“Notwithstanding, I am not leaving PDP. PDP is the hope of Nigerians and Osun people. I will fulfil my campaign promises to teeming PDP members in the area of human and social development despite not being the party’s candidate.”

While clearing the air on his rumoured senatorial bid Ogunbiyi explained” I did not demand anything from the NWC of our party but they out of their wisdom made proposals on offices. I did not solicit for an automatic senatorial ticket from anybody.”

He equally expressed readiness to work for the party’s success at the September 22 Governorship poll and implored his supporters across the state to stand firm and stay loyal to the party.

Also present at the well attended meeting were PDP leaders including Alhaji Gani Ola-Oluwa, Alh. Razaq Oluomo, Mr. Akin Adeyi, Hon. Adesoye Oyetunde, Dr. Ayoade Adewopo (a Gubernatorial aspirant who withdrew for Ogunbiyi), political leaders, academicians, workers, interest groups, royal fathers and several others.
