35-yr-Old-Woman Jailed 12 Months For Stealing Tecno Phone In Osun

A 35-year-old woman, Nafisat Raji , has been convicted and sentenced to twelve months imprisonment by an Osun state Magistrate Court for stealing Techno phone valued at N15,000.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O A Oloyade convicted Raji on self admittance and sentenced her to 12 months imprisonment.

The convict who was arraigned on one count charge borthering on stealing blamed devil for her travail.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun had told the court that the convict, an indigene of Ede committed the offense on March 10 at about 11pm at Tinumola Estate in Osogbo.

He said the convict entered into the shop belonging to one Rofisat Bolaji and stolen one Techno handset which valued 15,000.

He explained that the divorced women of three was arrested by the people around the area and was handed over to police after a thorough beating.

Inspector Abiodun tendered the statement of the convict and the stolen phone as exhibit before the Court.

He added that offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume 11.Laws of Osun State 2003.

The convict who had no legal representation pleaded guilty to the one count charge and admitted to the facts presented before the court.

She prayed the court to temper justice with mercy saying her last child is too small to abandon.

The prosecutor also informed the the court the convict has once been charged to court on the same offence.

Handling down her judgement, Magistrate Oloyade sentenced the convict to 12 months imprisonment or to pay an option of 10,000.

She thereby ordered that the recovered phone be returned to the complainant.
