2019: Ohanaeze Threatens To Sue INEC Over Underage Voters
The Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, Friday, threatened to drag the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to court over reported case of underage voting in Kano State.
Its threat came amidst reports by the INEC committee that such claims could not be established.
However, speaking through its national president, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro after its emergency meeting, the OYC said it would challenge the INEC until the proper thing was done.
The communique obtained by our Correspondent read in parts, “The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth council worldwide rose from an emergency meeting held today Friday and discussed extensively the report of the INEC panel led by one Abubakar Nahuce over under aged voters in kano, and we resolved as follows:
“We reject the report of the committee set up by The Chairman of INEC, Alh Mahmod Yakubu, led by one Abubakar Nahuce, which said that there’s no evidence of under aged voters in Kano.
“This is false and misleading, and we reject this report and call for the removal of INEC chairman, Alh Mahmood Yakubu, as he is incompetent and partial to conduct 2019 elections.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council worldwide have directed their legal Adviser to institute a legal process against INEC to tender overwhelming evidence to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that that we have enough evidence of under aged voters in Kano LGA elections, and that the leadership of INEC is baised and incompetent to organize a free and fair election in 2019.
“This report of INEC denying that there’s no evidence of under aged voters in Kano is a confirmation that there’s no hope of conducting a free and fair election in 2019.”
It added that “since INEC sees ‘No evil, Hears no evil’ in Kano, Ohanaeze Youths promise them that there will be under aged voting in South east in 2019; where the problem of 2019 will start will be if INEC refuses to register our underaged voters in the south east and South/South, or allow them to vote in 2019.
“OYC calls on the United Nations, Africa Union, ECOWAS and National Assembly to prevail on President Buhari to overhaul INEC by removing the Chairman of INEC because he is compromised, and not credible to conduct 2019 election
