Ex Eagles Captain to Miss Rest of the Season
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
The 34 year old Enyeama, has been Ligue 1 club Lille’s first choice goalkeeper for a number of seasons and will be a big miss for the French club as the season draws to a close.
Lille tweeted on Thursday “Vincent Enyeama will be out for the rest of the season. #CourageVincent,”.
Several Lille fans reacted to the unfortunate announcement by expressing their sympathy for the Nigerian star and wishing him a quick recovery.
There has been talk of a recall to the Super Eagles for Enyeama following an injury to his successor Carl Ikeme.
But this injury means Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr must consider other options for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in June.
Ex-Enyimba star Enyeama, who had 101 caps for Nigeria before retiring in 2015, has played 34 times for Lille this season in all competitions.
Enyeama missed last Saturday’s 3-0 Ligue 1 win over Guingamp after having kept goal in all but one of Lille’s league matches this season.
Lille are 12th in the Ligue 1 table with 40 points from 34 matches.
