Rangers Edge Wikki, Off NPFL Bottom Spot
Champions Enugu Rangers made it two wins on the bounce following a hard-fought 3-2 home win against Wikki Tourist in a rescheduled matchday 13 Nigeria Professional Football League game on Wednesday.
Goals from Bobby Clement, Ifeanyi George and Ousmane Pape secured the nervy win for Rangers while Samuel Chukwudi and Shammah Tanze scored Wikki’s goals.
The win takes Rangers off the bottom to 19th in the league table on 19 points but with three games in hand.
Rangers took the lead in the 12th minute through Clement who rose highest to head in Bright Silas’ cross.
George doubled the Flying Antelopes’ lead from the penalty spot in the 40th minute after following a hand ball by Abdullahi Musa inside his box.
Wikki made it 2-1 in the 51st minute thanks to Chukwudi who converted from the spot after Pape committed a foul in his box.
Rangers restored their two-goal advantage as Pape made up for his error as he nodded in Ugwu Uwadiegwu’s corner to make it 3-1.
Wikki refused to give up as Tanze got on to Victor Alegbe’s pass to bring the score at 3-2 in the 79th minute.
