Man Beats, Chains Wife, To Generating Set For One Day

A 37-year-old man, Ifeanyi Ajaero, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly chaining his wife, Obiageli, to a generating set from dusk till dawn.

 The incident was said to have happened at Ewooluwo area in Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.

The victim, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, was seriously battered by her husband.

Ajaero’s action was reported to the police by concerned neighbours, who claimed that the woman had severally been subjected to domestic violence.

The suspect, a member of the disbanded Navy Merchant, upon interrogation, told the police that he handcuffed his wife  based on self defence.

“The suspect, who is a member of the already disbanded merchant Navy, used a handcuff to chain his wife, who had become so weak as a result of the serious beating from the husband.

“People in the neighbourhood alerted the police to the incident, consequent upon which the DPO Shagamu, SP Aduroja Moses, led his men to the scene, rescued the victim and arrested the suspect.

“On interrogation, he admitted chaining the woman to the generator, but claimed that his action was for self defence.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, who described the action of the suspect as the height of wickedness, ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the state investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution,” the statement read.
