2017 Hajj: NAHCON Urges Media To Protect Nigeria’s Integrity

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), on Friday, urged media practitioners to protect the integrity of Nigeria and Saudi Arabia in the course of reporting the 2017 Hajj.
The Executive Chairman of NAHCON, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, made the appeal while inaugurating the Media Committee for the 2017 Hajj Operation in Abuja.
Mohammed also advised journalists covering the Hajj to be meticulous and verify their facts before publishing to avoid error.
He said Hajj was a complex exercise and a matter of religious obligation, hence the need for journalists to be objective in reporting its activities.
The NAHCON boss also appealed to the media not to rely on third party information in their daily reportage of the Hajj.
He added that “I really don’t envy the media team because you have a task of getting accurate information and making the best use of it.
“You are dealing with not only the pilgrims, but also relating with officials involved in the management of Hajj such as aviation experts, security agencies and others.
“Therefore, you have to disseminate the right information to the public and the pilgrims, who are the direct beneficiaries of such publicity.”
The Chairman of the 2017 Hajj Media Committee, Malam Ubale Musa, assured the commission of best coverage of the Hajj.
Ubale also promised to ensure that all grey areas that needed clarification from the commission were considered before going public
