The Ondo State Local Content Stakeholders (OSLCS) has cautioned the Ondo state government and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on the proposed Araromi-Akodo-Lekki road multi-billion  road project.
The state government and the NDDC had on Wednesday April 5, 2017 signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the road project.
But the OSLCS, in a statement signed by ist Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mr. Wale Ayejuni, warned Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu against awarding the 50km Akodo-Araromi road project to any incompetent construction company.
The group, however, pointed out that the development on the road came with so much joy for the people, especially those living in the coastal communities in Ilaje and Ese-Odo Council areas of the state.
A copy of the statement made available to CityMirrorNews on Friday reads: “The road would definitely boost economic activities in the area as this road will link Lagos State, the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria.
“From available estimates, it will definitely be possible to drive from Ilaje to Lagos within 30minutes. This is such a cheery news to all and sundry across the coastal line of Ondo State.
“Nevertheless, OSLCS expressed worries that such major project should not be given to incompetent companies and contractors, who mismanaged projects that would have transformed the coastal area in the recent past.
“The NDDC N19bn Ugbonla – Oghoye Road, which was awarded since 2010 is yet to materialize while billions of naira have been expended.
“Also, Ayetoro community Coastal embankments that was awarded more than ten years is yet to be completed yet billions on naira have also been released.”
The group warned that any attempt to award the Akodo-Araromi road contract to an incompetent contractor would be sternly resisted by the group, indigenes and stakeholders in the area.
