Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Sunday June 12 declared that the real enemies of late business mogul and the acclaimed winner of June 12, Presidential Election, Bashorun MKO Abiola, are the ones using his goodwill to curry favour of Nigerians at the moment.

The party in a statement issued in Osogbo by its spokesperson, Prince Diran Odeyemi and made available CityMirrorNews, the PDP recalled that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, had in recognition of the sacrifice of late Presidential candidate of Social Democratic Party, SDP, for the nation’s democracy, named University of Lagos, UniLag, after him.

“But what did Jonathan get in return”, the statement queried? “Protests were instigated and insults hurled at the President Jonathan by those that have over the years benefitted immensely from the goodwil of late Abiola.

“Chief MKO Abiola stands for all that is noble and good. Unfortunately, effort that would have perfectly immortalised him, was rejected by biggest beneficiaries of late Abiola’s goodwill and philanthropy.

“Nigerians know those that worked against Unilag being named after MKO and history will always remember President Goodluck Jonathan as the courageous leader that made sincere efforts to immortalize him. Those that thwarted move to permanently etch MKO on our minds are the ones laying wreaths at his graveside now, so sad”!

The party then called on President Mohammadu Buhari to name a national monument in the memory of late MKO Abiola in recognition of the role he played in facilitating the democracy the nation enjoys today.

Meanwhile, the party has berated Osun state governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for declaring Monday, public holiday in honour of the memory of late MKO Abiola and described his action as hypocrisy when he was part of those that frustrated effort to name Uinlag after the late businessman and politician.

PDP however observed that Ogun state which is the home state of late MKO, Abiola did not declare public holiday stressing that ” wasting a whole 24 hours in the life of a state that has been milked to near death is condemnable”.

It then urged Governor Aregbesola to desist from using the destiny of Osun people as pawn on his political chessboard, if he truly loves them as he has all the while professed.
