Meet The First American Woman To Compete In The Olympics With A Hijab
An American woman, Ibtihaj Muhammad has made history as the first American Olympian to compete while wearing a hijab! Ibtihaj competed in the women’s individual sabre but was knocked out of the Round of 16.
All hopes are not dashed as her medal hopes remain alive thanks to the team competition, which will kick off on Saturday, Aug. 13, as the United States takes on Poland in the quarterfinals of the women’s team saber competition.
Ibtihaj Muhammad was born on December 4, 1985 in Maplewood, New Jersey and attended the Duke University where she received a scholarship. Ibtihaj is ranked No.8 in the world ranking of fencers and also owns a clothing line!
