The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has fixed its post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) screening for the 2020\2021 academic session for November 18 to December 2, 2020.

The registrar of the university, Mr Oladejo Azeez, made this known in a statement on Thursday.

He said only candidates who sat for this year’s UTME conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and chose UNILAG as their first choice and scored 200 and above (and not 180 government benchmark) from 400 possible marks in the exam are eligible for the mandatory screening.

He also said candidates who are not up to 16 years of age by 31st of October this year and those who do not possess a minimum of credit pass at one sitting in five relevant O-Level subjects, including English Language and Mathematics need not apply for the screening.

He added that former students of UNILAG whose admissions were withdrawn on the basis of poor academic performance or absence status (and not those expelled ) could re-apply but for a different course or programme.

Mr Azeez noted that the registration for the screening would be done online from Monday, October 19 to Friday, October 30 and that the N2,000 charged would be paid also online or at school’s designated banks.

I’m preparing Ondo for zero-oil economy, says Akeredolu
LATEST NEWS
By
On Oct 8, 2020
Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Wednesday, said the major focus of his second term administration will be to redirect the state towards a zero-oil economy if he’s reelected by the people.

He also said all machinery had been put into place and barring last-minute hitch, electricity power will be restored to all towns and villages in the Ondo South Senatorial District before the end of his first term in February 2021.

Akeredolu, who spoke during a debate organised by Channels TV at the State International Events Centre (The DOME), Akure, the state capital, on Wednesday, said the first term of his administration has been used to drive the state towards the path of industrialisation

He added that with the Ondo Port Declaration expected to be declared soon by President Muhammadu Buhari, hunger shall soon be a thing of the past in the state.

“By the grace of God, the Sunhine Egg Powder currently belong constructed at Emure-Ile shall be completed before the 100 days of my second term. That company will employ 5,000 people and all the current and prospective poultry owners in Ondo State shall have a ready-made market to sell their products.

“Throughout the world, have you ever seen a state or region or nation that has a sea port that is poor? By the grace of God, Ondo Port Declaration shall be made before my 100 days in office, and that marks the end of extreme poverty in our state.

“I appeal to the people of this state to vote for me. I want to complete the Ikare-Akoko township dualisation. I do not want it abandoned. I want to complete other road projects across the state. I want the road from Araromi in Ilaje to Lekki in Lagos to be completed under my reign.

“My major interest is to leave an Ondo State that has zero reliance on oil economy. That is what I am preparing this state for. I urge the people of this state to choose between enduring legacy and stomach infrastructure. I want to work for today, tomorrow and forever. I have started it already.

“By the grace of God, power shall be restored to all the towns and communities in Ondo South before the end of my first term. The agreement has been signed and Niger/Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is involved.

“We are building a prosperous state. The election is not about me but about the future of our state. Late Olusegun Agagu started this investment and industrialisation drive but we didn’t allow him, we voted for the people with sweet mouth, now I am restarting all over again, please let’s vote wisely on Saturday,” Akeredolu, said.

We regret joining IPPIS ― SSANU, NASU
LATEST NEWS
By Tunbosun Ogundare – Lagos
On Oct 8, 2020
The non-academic staff members in public universities have expressed regret for enrolling in the newly introduced Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) by the federal government.

The workers said the system is not only full of inconsistency and counterproductive, but a total failure and therefore should be discontinued.

The workers, under the aegis of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), said had they known that the federal government was deceiving their leaders into believing that the new system would capture all their peculiarities while demonstrating its workability to them, they would have rejected it just as the Academic Staff Union (ASUU) did and still doing.

The chairman of SSANU of University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka branch, Mr Sola Sowunmi and his counterpart in charge of NASU in the school, Mr Kehinde Ajibade, said this in an interview with Tribune Online.

They said with IPPIS, no worker in the public university system knows how much exactly their earnings and allowances per month are again unlike before now when they could easily plan with their income as the system according to them was transparent.

They said there are various deductions made nowadays from their salaries and that in most cases, such deductions, which deplete hugely their take-home package on monthly basis, are not also uniformed nor consistent even among workers on the same salary grade level.

They said the deductions which also include unions’ check-off dues that are not even being remitted into unions purse is through the office of accountant-general of the federation.

When asked why they didn’t join ASUU then in refusing to enrol in the system, they said it was because they thought it would work based on the federal government defence of the policy.

“But now that we have tried the system, we can say bodily that IPPIS is a deceit of the federal government. It is just not working and we regret joining it,” SSANU’s Sowunmi stressed.
