Man Bags 21 Years Imprisonment For Robbing UNIUYO Students

Akwa Ibom State high court sitting in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area has sentenced a 25-year-old man, Emmanuel Okon, to 21 years jail term for robbing students of the University of Uyo, and dispossessing them of their valuables including laptops and phones.

Okon, a native of Eyo Abasi in Oron Local Government Area, was arrested after the security agency at the Main Campus of the university laid ambush for him following series of complaints of robbery by the students.

Emmanuel Okon’s last victim was a female student, whom he used a knife to dispose her of her Techno phone and money, while returning from lectures on the 9th of April, 2018.

his extra judicial statement to the Police, Okon confessed that he sold the phone to a man at Akamba Nsukara Offot at the rate of six thousand

Delivering judgement on Friday, trial judge, Justice Okon Okon said the convict was guilty of robbery the charge, which is punishable under the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act 2004.

Justice Okon Okon in his judgment, held that the prosecution has proven the identity of the accused beyond reasonable doubt, that it was him that robbed the student on 9th April, 2018.

The Court however held that there was no evidence that the accused used actual violence against his victims.

The judgment was delivered at the State High Court, Okoita, following the transfer of Justice Okon from Uyo Judicial Division, where the incident occurred to Ibiono Ibom Judicial Division. Punch Report.
