Two Arrested For Killing Herdsman In Ogun

The Ogun State Security Network Agency code named Amotekun Corps has apprehended two persons, Akinyele Adebayo (49) and Idosu Gbalo (30), at Imeko -Afon area of the State, over alleged conspiracy and murder of one Umaru Aliu.

This was contained in a statement e-signed by the Corps Commandant, CP David Akinremi (rtd), that the suspects conspired and murdered Aliu, a herder, at Ijagure village, Sagada area of the town, and were arrested by its operatives attached to the local government.

The Amotekun Corps Commander explained that the crime was perpetrated on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Imeko-Afon, while the deceased and one Umaru Takake were grazing their cattle in the bush near the village.

Akinremi further said that one Fagbemi Kareem (now at large) armed with a locally made single barrel gun was accompanied by four other persons, namely: Olorunto Segun; Baba Shele; Lana Ojugbele and Ashipa trailed the herders, and allegedly shot him on farmland belonging to one Chief Ogunlana Fagbemi, while Takake narrowly escaped unhurt.

The statement reads, “On the same day at about 2000 hours, the duo of Olorunto Segun and Baba Shele allegedly contacted one Akinyele Adebayo to assist in dismembering the corpse at the scene of crime.

“He obliged in the presence of other cohorts. While Baba Shele took away the head of the deceased to unknown destination.

“Thereafter, the remaining parts of the dismembered body were packed in a sack and buried in a pit near Oyan River at Oke-Ayo village in Imeko.

“The two arrested suspects on further interrogation admitted their various roles in the dastardly criminal act and took operatives of the Corps to the scene where the remaining parts of the body were dumped with several parts missing.

“Meanwhile, the prime suspects; Fagbemi Kareem ‘M’ and Baba Shele ‘M’ were said to have been arrested by Ojio Police Division, Oyo for the same offence, while Lana Ojugbele, Olorunto Segun and Ashipa are still at large.

“Consequently, the suspects Akinyele Adebayo and Idosu Gbalo are being transferred to Ogun State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta for further action and prosecution.”
