Polls: Tegbe Rallies Youths For Makinde’s Re-election
By Bode Akinbode, Ibadan
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District in the last election, Chief Joseph Tegbe, has urged youths across Oyo State to work for the re-election bid of Gov. Seyi Makinde in order to enjoy more dividends of democracy.
Tegbe stated this when he led a coalition of some leading youth groups to the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Bayo Lawal, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan on Thursday.
The PDP chieftain thanked the deputy governor for making out time to meet with the youth.
He said that the meeting was at the instance of the governor who had exhibited high level of commitment to addressing the concerns of the youth groups.
Tegbe commended the tenacity and focus of the youth and the fact that they had not allowed themselves to be lured by opposition parties through their ‘jaundiced offers’.
This, he said, was due to their conviction that Makinde remained the best for the state.
Tegbe also appreciated the manner in which the youth had conducted themselves, assuring them of continued government’s support.
The Council, which consists of different groups, urged the Makinde-led administration to give the youth greater consideration in his second term.
They specifically requested for more job opportunities and due recognition for their unflinching support to the present administration.
While welcoming the youth, the deputy governor said that the Makinde-led administration holds them in high esteem and has priotised their welfare and wellbeing.
According to him, the physical and intellectual energies of the youth are important to the development of Oyo State.
“If we don’t live for the youths, then for whom are we going to live?
“The governor, out of his act of kindness, appointed a young man, Victor Olojede, as Special Assistant on Students’ Matters, among other young appointees,” he said, adding that youths largely dominated the formation of the present administration.
Lawal urged them to continue supporting the state government, as it is working to advance their interest.
The youths expressed their satisfaction with Tegbe’s fatherly roles as well as the warm reception accorded them by the deputy governor.
They promised to mobilise their colleagues strongly for Makinde’s re-election on Saturday.
