Imo PDP Chieftains Diverted Atiku’s Fund To APC – Secretary
The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Samuel Anyanwu, has accused some chieftains of the party in Imo State of sabotaging the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, during the last presidential and National Assembly elections.
Anyanwu, in a statement by his spokesperson, Ikenna Onuoha, alleged that the unnamed chieftains of the party collected the election funds provided by the PDP but turned around to work for the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The statement read in part, “The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, expresses displeasure over the number of saboteurs surrounding the party in Imo State, adding that all their efforts are to see that the PDP does not exist in the state.
“Anyanwu says the primary objectives of these saboteurs during the just-concluded presidential and National Assembly elections were to starve the party and its members of funds earlier approved and released as election intervention funds.
“He regrets that all entreaties, appeals and convictions to release the funds approved to appropriate authorities in line with the national template to enable them deliver candidates of our party was flagrantly ignored, noting that reason why these saboteurs carried out the broad daylight onslaught against the party was to frustrate PDP by ensuring that its candidates lose the elections.
“According to him, after hijacking the election intervention funds released to the party in Imo State, some of the saboteurs turned back against candidates of PDP and engaged in anti-party activities in order to justify the deal they had with leaders of the All Progressives Congress.
“The PDP national scribe therefore calls on the party’s candidates and other aggrieved members who suffered neglect and sheer betrayals in the hands of these saboteurs to remain calm, assuring them that all legal means shall be utilised to bring those directly and indirectly involved to book.
“While assuring them of efforts to revive the party and make it more viable and formidable ahead of the November 11 governorship election, Anyanwu expresses optimism that those that betrayed the PDP would soon be made public.”
