Court Remands 70-Year-Old Woman, Five Others For Assaulting Traditional Chief In Osun

An Osun State Magistrate court, sitting in Osogbo, has ordered the remand of a 70- years old woman, Fatimoh Orelope and five others for alleged assault of a traditional Chief, CityMirror News Report.

Other defendants identified are, Babalola Motunrayo (35years old), Suliman Ganiyu (47years old), Kehinde Ojeyemi (40years old), Olutoye Taofeeq (35years old) and Olutoye Wasiu Kayode (40 years old).

The Prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun said the defendants committed the crime, on the 15th January 2023 at about 10:00am at Obaagun area of Osun State.

The Prosecutor told the court that the defendants did conspire among themselves to commit felony to wit: assault, robbery and threatening violence.

He also stated, that the defendants did unlawfully assault Chief Dauda Ajadosu attacking him with sticks, fist blows and slaps.

He also informed, the court that, the defendants did unlawfully rob Chief Dauda Ajadosu of his staff of office.

He also said, the defendants did armed themselves with weapons, threatening to kill Chief Dauda Ajadosu.

He further alleged that the defendants did unlawfully destroyed the Chief’s traditional beads and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 516, 351, 402, 86 and 451 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the five count charges of felony, unlawful assault, threat to life, unlawful theft and destruction of belongings slammed against them by the police.

Counsel to the defendants, A. S Olaniyi, thereby pleaded the court to grant bail to his clients.

The Prosecutor, objected to the bail proposed by the defendants’ counsel, saying count three on the charge sheet’s is an offence that warranty 21 years imprisonment, which is a capital offence and also count four, which is also a capital offence, thereby urging the court not to admit the defendants to bail, in order not to allow same crimes to be committed.

The Magistrate, Olusegun Ayilara in his ruling thereby ordered the defendants be remanded in the correctional facility and thereby adjourned the case till 15th, February 2023.
