Police Arrest Woman, 2 Friends Who Allegedly Conspired to Dump Lover’s Corpse in Bush
Three women who were alleged to have conspired to dump a corpse in a bush and suspected of murder have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command.
The incident was said to have occurred at Mamugba Village at Ogijo community in the state.
In a statement issued and signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the names of the suspects were given as Rukayat Basorun (37), Omobola Shodimu and Aanu Owoade.
According to the PPRO, the suspects were arrested when information got to the police that they had secretly dumped a corpse in a bush.
He said that the Divisional Police Officer at Ogijo police station, SP Tijani Mohammed, who got the information, led his men to the area where the principal suspect, Rukayat Basorun, was arrested.
“Investigation revealed that the deceased happened to be Rukayat’s lover who came to spend some time with her but died in a suspicious circumstance in her house,” Oyeyemi wrote in the statement.
He added that after the lover’s death, Rukayat allegedly connived with her friends to take the body to the bush where it was dumped.
“On interrogation, Rukayat confessed that the deceased was her male friend who came to visit her but suddenly fell sick.
“She stated further that she took him to a private hospital but the money charged by the hospital was too much for her to pay, which made her to take him to an undisclosed clinic where she said the man gave up the ghost.
“When asked the reason she decided to dump the corpse in the bush, she could not give any reasonable response,” the police spokesperson said, disclosing that the remains of the deceased had been recovered and deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
