Deposed Monarch Regains Throne
Illegally deposed monarch of ancient Agbarho kingdom, Ughelli north local government area, Delta state, His Royal Majesty, Sampson Ogugu I, the Osuvie of Agbarho kingdom, has regained his throne amidst tight security on Monday morning.
As early as 5 am police mounted barricades on all the roads around the popular 5junction leading to the palace. The first bank which is just by the market, the market and all stores around the market did not open for business at press time.
At about 930am the monarch drove throw an ecstatic waiting crowd into the palace.
In his address, he affirmed his resolve to promote peace and the common good of the kingdom, thanking the state Commissioner of Police for providing security.
The monarch who was visibly excited ordered the crowd to take out all pieces of furniture in the palace, saying new ones will be procured.
The clergymen he came with destroyed objects suspected to be charmingly littering the palace.
Youths and women were seen carrying chairs, air conditioners, mattresses and other valuables in the palace. Two young men wore caps they said were crowns they found in the palace.
Meantime, a handful of women apparently loyal to a rival group made attempt to protest against the monarch but were stopped from coming close to the palace.
It would be recalled that in December 2018 a faction in the kingdom chased the monarch out of the palace and installed Chief William Onokpite as king but he didn’t enjoy recognition from the Delta state government.
Battle-ready policemen were still at several junctions in the town after the monarch had left.
Vanguard gathered the police would maintain a presence in the town to forestall any resistance to the new order.
