Two Armed Robbers Sentenced to Death in Osun

Two armed robbers, Sunday Isaiah and Akeem Lamidi have been sentenced to death by hanging by an Osun State High Court, sitting in Iwo.
The court presided over by Justice Moshood Adeigbe found the convicts guilty of two count charges of armed robbery and conspiracy committed on May 02, 2012.
The offences contravened Section 6(b) and Section 1(1) & (2), (a) of the Robbery and firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap. R,11 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
Hearing the case on Monday, state prosecuting counsel, Mr. Bamidele Salawu said: “On the 2nd May, 2012 a gang of armed Robbers numbering about four, invaded the residence of one Mrs. Aladete at Asabi Okin in Iwo.
“Convicts forcefully gained entrance into her sitting room, she was thoroughly beaten and also threatened with guns, and her official vehicle was driven away, but were later arrested at Ibafo by Nigeria Police, when they were about to sell the vehicle”.
The two convicts pleaded not guilty to the allegation preferred against them during the first appearance in magistrate court.
During the trial of the two convicts, Salawu called three witnesses and tender several exhibits which were admitted without any objection.
Counsel to the convicts Mr. C.N. Okwusidi , pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy with his clients.
Justice Moshood Adeigbe found the accused guilty of conspiracy and armed robbery and subsequently sentenced them to death.
