Herdsman Remanded in Prison for Alleged Destruction of Farm Produce
An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 24-year-old herdsmen, Abu Begiri, in prison for alleged destruction of farm produce.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Bankole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 9 at Ago corner, Abuad Road in Ado-Ekiti.
He said that he allowed his cattle to graze on the farmland not designated as ranches, property of Omesa Musa and destroyed his farm produce valued N200,000.
Olsunkanmi said the offence contravened Section 2 and punishable under Section 7 and 4 (3) of Prohibition of cattle and other Ruminants Grazing, Ekiti State Law 2016.
Miss Oluwasayo Ayorinde, counsel to the accused, applied for his bail.
Chief Magistrate Idowu Ayenimo told the counsel to formalise her application for bail and remanded the accused in prison.
He adjourned the case till Feb. 10 for further hearing.
