Aragbiji Tasks Families on Massive Food Production
A traditional Monarch in Osun, Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdulrasheed Olabomi, Odundun IV, has stressed the need for family compounds in the town to key into agriculture.
Oba Olabomi made the submission at a meeting with representatives of about 108 compounds in the ancient town.
The Aragbiji who noted that the present economic recession makes it important for them to go into large scale farming underscored the need for more engagement in the sector.
According to him, providing lands and manpower will go a long way in ensuring massive food production for the town and the state at large.
The monarch, who maintained that engaging the populace, no doubt, will turn around the fortune of the state by making local foods a major staple consumption.
Oba Olabomi posited that the development will also contribute to the Banish Hunger Policy of the Osun State Government.
The traditional ruler said: “The present economic recession makes it important for us to go into large scale farming. So, I will implore you (those in attendance) to help us provide lands for cultivation of maize, rice, cassava, pepper, tomatoes and the rest.
“I will also want you to cultivate cucumber and vegetables in large quantities because this will make us revert to our local foods other than rice which we have consistently seen as a substitute.”
Corroborating the monarch, the Vice Chairman, Association of Iragbiji Indigenes, Engr. Adesoye Idowu, called on the governments to support local farmers by providing facilities to give them high productivity.
Oba Olabomi also urged the youths to desist from social vices, calling on parents to counsel their wards to be orderly and be security conscious.
