Veteran Journalist Commends Nigerian Army on Boko Haram’s Defeat
By Sakin Babalola, Ibadan
Former Editor of Evening Sketch, Elder Tunde Onilogbo has commended the Nigerian Military for flushing out the remnants of Boko Haram from the Sambisa forest.
Onilogbo, however, called for vigilance from all good and peace loving Nigerians.
Onilogbo who spoke with newsmen at Oyo State NUJ Press Centre Iyaganku Ibadan, condemned the action of some retired military officers and politicians who promoted the elongation of terrorism in the North East by diverting fund for the procurement of ammunitions into personal use.
“Though I commend our military men and officers for their gallantry and exploit,it is not over yet because of the sack of Boko Haram insurgents from Sambisa and other parts of the North East who are still threatening peace all over the country”.
“The insecurity would not have lasted for so long with massacre of many innocent souls but for the betrayal of Nigerians by the unpatriotic people in power who shared money for arms and ammunitions among themselves.Nemesis will surely catch up with them,he said.
He advised Nigerians to be extra vigilant in view of information that some members of Boko Haram sects who escaped from Sambisa forest were hiding in major towns and might wreak havoc adding”suspicious elements should be reported to appropriate security agencies”.
The former Marketing Manager of defunct Sketch Press Limited said that he thanked God for Nigeria pointing out that he believes God answers prayers “and I am now convinced that besides God via Jesus Christ, there is no protection elsewhere”.
He appealed to the Federal Government to address the welfare of workers as well as pensioners adding that the Holy books were against Governments impoverising the workers who voted them into power.
Onilogbo urged all religious leaders in the country to live by their teachings and courageously counsel political leaders whenever they are derailing from the right course.
