Fire Destroys Akure Market
Properties worth several millions of naira were destroyed by fire outbreak at the Odo Petu Central market in Akure, in the early hours of Thursday, December 29,2016.
The fire, which according to the investigation, started between 11:00 pm Wednesday and 12, midnight of December 29 2016.
Most of the affected traders were seeing crying and wailing uncontrollable as early as 6;00am on Thursday lamenting the losses recorded to the fire incidence.
Some of the traders who spoke with CityMirrorNews lamented that they had just stocked their shops with various commodities in preparation for the new year business.
Goods destroyed in large quantity include bags of rice, beans, palm oil and vegetable oils salt, clothes of assorted brands and other variables too numerous to mention.
According to one of the victims of the fire inferno, Mrs. Victoria Olugbenro who had just made some purchase said, she got to her shop in the early hours of Thursday only to meet an empty shop.
Also, Mrs. Olasehinde who sells provisions said, sympathisers called her around 11:00pm on Wednesday to inform her that her goods had been gutted by fire.
While most of the traders could not count their loss, others were found been assisted by sympathisers to move their goods from the affected areas to a safer location.
Market men and women however were found mobilising to meet the state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and solicit for his assistance to redeem most of the lost properties.
