Oyetola Urged To Revive OSBC’s 6 Channels Transmitter
A call has gone to the Osun State Government to as a matter of urgency revive the abandoned New Dawn Television station at Obokun.
The New Dawn TV, Channel 22 UHF which is a sub-station of Osun State Broadcasting Cooperation, OSBC was said to have been the root of broadcasting services in the state.
It was gathered that the station housed a digital and analog transmitter which is one of a kind in Nigeria.
A source who spoke under the condition of anonymity said Osun state is sitting on a goldmine.
“There’s an untapped goldmine at the New Dawn TV station. The transmitter at the station is the only transmitter in Nigeria that has both digital and analog transmission.
“The world has switched to digital, yet the transmitter can be switched from analog to digital and vice versa.
“One of the importance of the transmitter is that it can accommodate six channels at once.
“It is just like having a cable network with series of channels on it. OSBC can be running six channels at once with lots of interesting programmes.
“Unfortunately, such equipment is being abandoned as the station is a shadow of its self.”
When our correspondent visited the station, it was observed that apart from the transmitter not being used, the station lacked all the equipment necessary.
It was also gathered that most of the staff are being redeployed to the state capital, hence the neglect of the station.
They all appealed to the state government to come to the aid of the station in order to meet and compete with standard broadcasting stations on the country.
