I stole Goat To Offset My Son Hospital Bills, Woman Tells Court

An Osogbo magistrate’s Court has sentenced a middle-aged woman for stealing her neighbour’s goat.

The woman, Identified as Jimoh Sadiat, was accused of stealing a brown she-goat belonging to one Fausat Adegboga.

Police Prosecutor, ASP Fagboyinbo Abiodun told the court that Sadiat committed the offence on January 5, 2020 at Agubelewo area in Osogbo.

Abiodun further explained that the accused did unlawful steal one she-goat value N45,000 property of one Fausat Adegboga.

The offence according to the Prosecutor contravened Section 516 and 390 Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun state 2002.

The accused pleaded guilty to the allegations slammed against her.

Pleading for leniency, accused person said her action was not intentional. she said one of her son is suffering from Hernia and he has been hospitalised for months due to lack of money.

She said she stole the goat with the aim of selling it in order to settle the hospital bills before she was nabbed .

Defence Counsel, Barr. Abimbola Ige urged the court to temper justice with mercy on his client.

In his judgment, the presiding Magistrate, Mr. Opeyemi Badmus convicted Sadiat on self admittance and sentenced her to six months imprisonment at the Ilesa correctional centre.
