49 Bag First Class As UNIOSUN Holds 8th Convocation

Out of the 1,814 graduating students of the Osun State University, 49 of them are graduating from the institution with first class degree.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Labode Popoola announced this on Thursday, in Osogbo while addressing a press conference organised to heralding the institution’s 8th Convocation ceremony.
Popoola further explained that 670 graduands made second class upper, 892 with second class lower, 194 made a third class while 9 will be awarded pass degree.
He stated that this will bring to a total of 9,955 the number of first degrees awarded by the University since its first degree since the first convocation in 2011.
The vice chancellor said henceforth the convocation ceremony would be held on September 21 the day the school was founded.
The Vice Chancellor added that the Vice president of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo will deliver the convocation lecture for the institution’s 8th Convocation ceremony slated for September 21.
Popoola said the vice president will be speaking on the topic “Six Decades of Chequred Nationhood: Nigeria still holds the key to Africa’s development.”
He also said four eminent Nigerians would be conferred with honorary degrees.
They include; Dr Bola Babalakin, the Chairman Governing Council, University of Lagos, Jim Ovie , the Zenith Bank, Nike Okundayo… and the immediate past governor of Osun Rauf Aregbesola.
Itemising some achievements of the institution within the space of one year, Vice Chancellor said that the institution has established Global Affairs and Sustainable Development Institute(GASDI).
He further explained that GASDI was approved by the Senate of Osun State University in October, 2018 with a mandate to address issues of sustainable development in unique, creative and efficient ways that can fast-track the attainment of the SDGs and unleash development in different communities.
Outlining programmes of the event, the VC said on Friday , 20 September , foundation lecture titled, “Breaking the cycle of Indolence and Dependency-a Challenge to the Nigerian youths . He said the lecture would be delivered by Prof Abel Olajide Olorunnisola
“Thursday, 19 September , Candido Da Rocha Annual Memorial Lecture by Prof Rafiu Oyesola Salawu. Wednesday, 18 , exhibition of Research and Entrepreneurship products and Convocation play titled : Women of Owu by Femi Osofian to be performed by Uniosun cultural troupe.
“Tuesday, 17 September, Commissioning of projects and exhibition of research and Entrepreneurship products at the site of the project/centre for Entrepreneurship hall, main campus ,Osogbo.
“Monday, 16 September, Community service (Health Talk and Free Medical services at the palace of the respective host communities of Uniosun campuses.
“Sunday, 15 September : Thanksgiving service at the Apostolic Church, Osogbo Area Headquarters, along new ring road. Friday, 13 September Jumat Service at Uniosun main campus mosque, by 1.00pm”
