Court Restrains Osun Govt, Ooni From Installing Olulamokun Of Yakooyo
Osun State High Court presided over by Justice J.O Ogunleye has restrained Osun State Government and Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi from installing new Olulamokun of Yakooyo, pending the determination of a motion on notice at Ile-Ife High Court.
Contest of Obaship stool of the sleepy community had become a court matter following the demise of its former traditional ruler with one of the contestants, Prince Isaac Oladepo Oyekanmi Olamoyegun
Olamoyegun however reproached the high court in Ile-Ife , alleging that a section of community wanted to install one Prince Meshack Oyewole who he accused of conniving with some “powerful” people in the community to take the approval of his selection from the state government through the backdoor.
Joined as defendant in the matter with Prince Meshack Oyewole are the state Governor, Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ife-North Local Government among others.
It was gathered that the state government has already scheduled Thursday, September 12, 2019 for the installation of a monarch in the town.
The three kingmakers in the town according to information were not being carried along in the selection process which led to the approval of Oyewole by the state government.
However, after due process, the three kingmakers, Chief Asalu , Chief Morigi and Chief Olukotun reportedly picked the plaintiff in 2018 and accordingly sent his name to Ooni of Ife , Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi for consenting order and Ministry of Chieftaincy for approval.
But, story was later twisted in another dimension when Oyewole allegedly went behind to present himself to the government as the king, the development which did not go down well with Olamoyegun and consequently approached the court to seek redress .
Giving his ruling on application for motion Ex parte, on Tuesday, the presiding judge, Justice Ogunleye
gave an Order for interim injection compelling the state government and other respondents from the community to stay further action related to the Kingship stool pending the determination of the motion on notice.
Justice Ogunleye said: “Motion Ex Parts for an order of Interim Injunction restraining the 2th 6th Defendants/Respondents their servants, agent and or privies from installing the 1st Defendant/Respondent as the Olulamokun of Yakooyo or presenting him a staff of office in that regard pending the determination of motion on notice filed on 24th of December 2018
” I hereby make an order of interim Injunction against the 2nd – 6th
Defendants/Respondents as prayed.
“This order shall abate after seven days as provided for in the Rules.”
