Beeaking: Omo-Agege Beats Ekweremadu to Emerge Deputy Senate President

By Jide Afolabi, Jos
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege from Delta State has been elected the Deputy Senate President.
Omo-Agege defeated his closest rival, the immediate past Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu from Enugu state.
Omo-Agege of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, polled 68 votes to beat Ike Ekweremadu of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 37 votes.
This is a clear departure from the last Senate leadership where the ruling party clinched the Senate Presidency while the opposition won the Deputy Senate Presidency.
The PDP last night had declared support for Senator Ali Ndume who lost earlier today to the candidate of the ruling party, Senator Ahmad Lawan.
