PDP Chairmanship: South-West PDP Members Laud S-South, S-East Govs for Endorsing Agbaje

A group of members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in South-West, has lauded the Governors in the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria for endorsing Dr Jimi Agbaje for the National Chairmanship of the party.

The PDP members, under the aegis of PDP Patriots, said the Governors have showed their passionate commitment and readiness to reposition the party by endorsing ‘credibility and integrity’ of Agbaje to lead the party.

Agbaje, who was the governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2015 gubernatorial election in Lagos State, is contesting the chairmanship candidate with Chief Olabode George, the former South-West deputy national Chairman of the PDP.

PDP Governors in the South-South and South-East had at the weekend endorsed Agbaje, describing him as the credible candidate needed to restructure the party.

The group in a press statement signed by its Coordinator, Mr Akinola Babs, on Tuesday said: On behalf of the PDP members in the South-West, we members of ‘The Patriot’ appreciate South-South and South-East Governors and leaders for endorsing integrity and credibility to lead PDP as National Chairman from South-West, in person of Dr Jimi Agbaje.

“We promised that Jimi agbaje will not let them down as it’s will be a new dawn in our party politics and a new strategies that will take PDP back to its winning way right from Edo election very soon.”

The Patriot maintained that integrity should be the first major quality anyone must possess before such an aspirant should be considered for the post of national chairman.

It had earlier declared its support for the candidature of Agbaje, saying that if Buhari’s integrity could change APC’s fortune, then a man of integrity as the chairman of PDP at this moment would bring about change of fortune for good for the party.

“PDP as a party must change its way of doing things and re create public perception by shunning people with corrupt tendencies or promoting those with corruption cases to leadership positions.

“Against this backdrop, PDP convention committee should put in place a well televised debate for all intending chairmanship aspirants where they will tell the whole world what and how they’ll take PDP out of the wood.

“The two factions at the national level -Sheriff and Makarfi factions should come together, settle their differences and give us a credible National Convention.

“As a group, we have concluded to mobilise and take our campaign to all delegates to the national convention to vote for Dr. Jimi Agbaje, who after thorough consultations with stakeholders is seeing as untainted and capable to lead PDP”, the group said.

It then appealed to others in the race in South West to step down for Agbaje and take up their role of mentoring him to successfully lead the party to victory in 2019 election‎.
