Osun First Lady Charges Women On Parental Responsibility

The wife of the Osun State Governor, Mrs Sherifat Aregbesola on Thursday charged women in the state to be alive to their parental responsibilities by giving their children the best worthy parents could offer.

Mrs 66 said the success of a nation oftentimes is determined by the kind of upbringing parents offer their children and wards, saying it has become imperative for all to be conscious of the needs of their children for Nigeria to remain great.

The Osun First Lady gave the charge while addressing the participants at the seventh quarterly meeting of the Southern Governors’ Wives Forum (SGWF), held at Aurora Event Centre, Osogbo.

According to Mrs Aregbesola, no nation can be successfully built without the support of women for they play critical roles in child upbringing.

She noted that the security challenges currently affecting the country was as a result of lack of parents monitoring, saying majority of youths engaging in various criminal activities were those that lack parental care.

Urging parents on the need to always discharge their parental roles, the First Lady said “I am of opinion that this will stem the problem of public misbehavior which often lead to insecurity.”

On the empowerment embarked upon by the first ladies, Mrs Aregbesola explained that the programme has contributed immensely to the standard of living of the people in the society.

She said, a lot of women have benefited from the empowerment program that has been attached with the meeting scheduled.

“It is particularly noteworthy that our empowerment program, which has become part of our regular meeting has touched many lives.”

She charged the women to perform their home responsibility on proper parental upbringing of children.

“I am of the opinion that this will stem the challenge of public misbehavior which often lead to insecurity.”

“This meeting is one of our quarterly meeting, it is a further step that it will provide us with another opportunity to drive the desire for a greater unity among the people in the southern state of Nigeria.”

“My darling sister, I would like our forum to also consider intensifying our advocacy on the eradication of harmful traditional practice and danger that threaten our girls.”

First lady Osun state led other governors wives to present the empowerment to the beneficiaries that were selected across the 31 local government and LCDAs in the state.

Among the empowerment were Grinding machine, Soap making machine, saloon dryer machine, Swing machine, Cooler, Cooking pot among others.
Also, female senior secondary students benefited from the meeting by receiving free school uniforms.
