Cleric Admonishes Journalists To Preach Forgiveness, Unity Through Their Reportage

The Chief Imam of Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government area of Osun State, Sheik Dr Muhammed Jamiu Bello Akorede has urged media practitioners to use their power to preach the message of forgiveness, love and unity to make the country a better place.

Sheik Akorede gave the charge in a sermon at the Ilobu Central mosque during a special jum’at service to herald the activities, marking the 2018 NUJ Osun Council Press Week.

The clergy  identified forgiveness, unity and love as core values of human life and urged people to make it the driving spirit in all their undertakings.

The Imam who urged media professionals to always discharge their duties with fear of Allah said, the media is key to peaceful coexistence of the nation,  hence the need for professionals to focus on developmental reporting.

Sheik Akorede said media remained impetus to socio economic and political revolution of the country, saying the practitioners must look inward and develop new approach for national growth.

He emphasized the need for professionals to always put God first in all their endeavours.

The clergyman hinted that journalism was a delicate profession and prayed God to always protect professionals from the job hazard.

Welcoming the journalists, Sheik JAMIU Abdulraheem, the Deputy Mufashir prayed for the protection of media practitioners in the course of their duties

He said media practitioners were key in sustaining peaceful coexistence of the nation, hence the need for practitioners to always discharge their duties with fear of Allah.

Speaking, the chairman of Osun NUJ council, Abiodun Olalere appreciated the chief imam and the congregation for recieving the union in a warm and friendly manner.

Olalere said that  the Union will continue to use journalism profession as a tool to preach love and unity among the people of the country as was preached in the sermon.
