Benue Massacre: Apologise To Governor Ortom , Group Tell IGP
The Movement for Good Governance Initiative (MGGI) has called on the inspector general of police, Idris Abubakar to tender an apology to the Benue state governor, Sam Ortom and the good people of the state over the statement of his Spokeperson, Moshood Jimoh while featuring on channel television programme “sunrise Daily.”
MGGI in a release signed by its convener, Lekan Shobo Shobowale and made available to CityMirrorNews through its Spokeperson acting publicity Secretary Arewa Oladipupo described the statement of the PPRO as an act of disrespect to a recognised and constituted authority.
The release said ” we at this movement received with great shock and total dismay some of the utterances of Jimoh Moshood especially referring to an elected governor as a drowning man.
” We condemned this statement totally and called on the IGP to immediately tender an apology to Governor Sam Ortom, the Benue people and Nigerians in general and also ensure a disciplinary action is taking against the PPRO.”
The statement further stated that the attitudes and utterances of the PPRO negates the international best practices and expected standards of ethics of policing across the world.
He, urged, police authority to as a matter of urgency embarked on mass education and enlightenment of its officers on the need to ensure cordial relationship with members of the public.
The group also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to take proactive steps in bringing an end to the herdsmen/farmers crisis across the country.
