Four Armed Robbery Suspects In 2016 Ikirun Banks Raid Arraigned In Court, Remanded in Prison
Four armed robbery suspects arrested in connection with the bank raid that left two policemen and seven other people dead on February 12, 2016 have been arraigned before an Osun state High Court, sitting in Ikirun, the Headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government.
The robbery suspects were arraigned by the Ministry of Justice led by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Dr Basiru Ajibola before Justice Jide Falola on Wednesday.
The suspects, Nuhu Jimoh, Ndubisi David, Aderibigbe Oluwaseun and Ogundunmade Kayode, were charged for murder, armed robbery, stealing and conspiracy.
According to the statement of fact, the suspects killed two policemen, Sunday Oyewo and Victor Olokede.
Five of the armed robbery suspects were said to have been killed in gun duel with the police while two residents of the Banks area in Ikirun also died in the bank raid.
The suspects allegedly robbed Skye Bank, Ikirun branch of N13.5 million and First Bank, Ikirun branch of N26.5 million.
During the proceedings, a legal aid counsel, Mrs. Oluyemisi Akintajuwa, urged the court to hear the application for bail of the second and fourth suspects, David and Kayode.
She informed the court that Kayode has a mental challenge, praying the court to release him on bail for medical treatment.
The Attorney General of the state, Ajibola, who appeared with the Assistant Chief State Counsel, Biodun Badiora, informed the court that counsel to the first and third accused person were not in court, hence the delay in the hearing of the matter.
Justice Falola ordered that the suspects be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter to Thursday, November 2, 2017 for ruling on the bail application.
